Manuel Pellegrini says Man City must cut out mistakes to progress in Champions League

Manuel Pellegrini says his side must cut out mistakes if they are to progress in the Champions League, despite a 2-2 draw in their quarter-final first leg with PSG on Wednesday.
Fernandinho's equaliser ensures City travel back for the return fixture at the Etihad Stadium on April 12 in a strong position to reach the semi-finals for the first time in their history.
They went ahead at the Parc des Princes through Kevin de Bruyne, but were pegged back by goals either side of half-time from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adrien Rabiot.
An error from Fernando allowed Ibrahimovic to level in bizarre fashion three minutes after De Bruyne's opener, but Pellegrini believes the Swedish striker, who also had a penalty saved by Joe Hart, was in an offside position when Rabiot tapped PSG ahead.
"In the first half we made important mistakes that we cannot do if we want to continue in the Champions League," Pellegrini said.
"Unfortunately for us in the second half I think PSG's second goal was offside. It wasn't a mistake from the defence, it was a mistake from the assistant referee.
"Before that we made another mistake in giving away a penalty but if we want to win we can't make those kind of mistakes, but the team had the personality to continue to try to win the game.
"It was a very good penalty save from Joe but it was one of our mistakes also because we could have cleared the ball before that.
"It's important to keep your mentality because when you receive a goal like we conceded at the end of the first half and after that you receive an offside goal, it's not easy to recover.
"But the team believe in what we do, and we always try to play attacking and try to score, and we scored that second goal.
"I am happy with the result tonight. We played against a very good team away from home and scored two goals. I think the tie is absolutely open heading to Manchester because we are playing a team that plays like us, the same home and away.
De Bruyne continued his impressive comeback from injury with his second goal in as many games, and Pellegrini paid tribute to the Belgium international.
"A lot of times one player can change a team and Kevin was very important before his injury," Pellegrini added. "Fortunately for us he has returned in the same way because he makes a difference."
But the City boss was reluctant to put a time-frame on Vincent Kompany's fitness, urging caution as the defender steps up his recovery from his latest calf injury.
"We will see him during the week and see how he improves," he continued. "Vincent was working very well and we must test him with more intensity. It is very difficult to answer that question now."
