A group of Manchester City supporters are appealing for cash from fellow fans to set up a "big welcome" for new boss Pep Guardiola.

The 1894 Group is hoping to raise £2,500 to produce flags and banners for a visually spectacular display during matches at the Etihad Stadium next season.

A fundraising web page has so far seen donations of more than £500 pledged. The initiative is part of the 1894 Group's drive to improve the atmosphere at games.

A spokesman said: "We're looking forward to welcoming Pep Guardiola, arguably the best coach in the world, to Manchester."
