Trevor Sinclair: Pep Guardiola is better than Jose Mourinho - just

Trevor Sinclair is looking forward to witnessing the "battle of Manchester" next season when Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho resume hostilities.

Former Manchester City midfielder Sinclair believes City stole a march on their neighbours from Old Trafford by agreeing terms with Guardiola a handful of months before United signed up Mourinho.

And he feels City have acquired the better manager, saying: "If you got a bit of honesty from people and they had their choice of manager, I think Pep would have been top of the list.

"They've jumped the gun on Manchester United to get the main man there, and they've reacted by getting Jose and we'll see how that pans out but all eyes are going to be on Pep.

"I just feel there are going to be good players brought in and good players developed and I feel City will be the team to beat next season.

"The battle of Manchester is about to commence and it's going to be interesting.

"It's not just good for the Premier League but for the rest of the world to see how it unravels and there are two fantastic managers who have time now to get their ducks in a row ready for the start of the season.

Guardiola had also been linked with United but City chose to make the announcement that he had joined them as early as February, leaving Manuel Pellegrini to remain in the post until the end of the season.

Guardiola and Mourinho came face to face in La Liga when they coached Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Since then, Spaniard Guardiola has led Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title while Mourinho returned to Chelsea who dismissed him half-way through the 2015/16 season.

Meanwhile, Sinclair has accused the red half of Manchester of showing a 'short-term approach' highlighted by their chase of 34-year-old striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who looks set to move to United in the coming days.

He added: "You look at Mourinho, I think he only stays for two or three years at any club.

"And then obviously Zlatan is in the latter years of his career and you can't see him playing for more than one or two years if he does go to United.

"I still feel there's a little bit of short-termism at Manchester United but I think they've got a good man in."
