Leroy Sane has pulled out of Germany's Confederations Cup squad and will instead have surgery on his nose.

The Manchester City winger, nominated for the Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year award in his first Premier League season, was named in a 23-man squad.

But Sane will now sit out the World Cup warm-up tournament, which runs from June 17 to July 2 in Russia, while also missing Germany's games against Denmark and San Marino at the start of June.

He said in a statement: "I would have liked to have gone to Russia, but after talks with the medical team, I have decided to use the summer break for this operation so that I can go into the new season with a clean bill of health."
