Gabriel Jesus will travel to Barcelona this week to have further treatment on his knee injury, Sky Sports News understands.

The Brazil striker will be assessed by Dr Ramon Cugat, the specialist who helped Ilkay Gundogan return to full fitness from knee ligament damage and is overseeing Benjamin Mendy's recover from a similar injury.

The 20-year-old, who has scored eight Premier League goals for the club so far this season, was injured in the goalless draw with Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve, as their 18-match winning league run came to an end, leaving the field in tears.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola indicated in the aftermath of the match he expected Jesus would be "out for a little bit more than one month" but City have not since put any further time frame on a return from the injury.

Sergio Aguero is the only fit striker left in Guardiola's first-team squad, with speculation that City, who face Bristol City in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg live on Sky Sports Football, may again try to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January after a failed attempt during the summer transfer window.
