Vincent Kompany admits he's "trying not to care" about Chelsea's poor start to the season as Manchester City dominate the early stages of this season's Premier League.

The 2014 title winners already hold a three-point lead at the top of the table and are eight points clear of the reigning champions.

While City have won all four of their games and scored 10 times without conceding, Chelsea have lost twice – once to Kompany and his team-mates – and also drew with Swansea.

But Kompany is refusing to get carried away and expects to see all the usual trophy contenders come to the fore over time.

He said: "For me, to have a season like last season wasn't acceptable and I've done what I've always know when times were tough.

"I just got back to basics, worked even harder and I've come back stronger. Right now, what I see in this team which I haven't seen – probably ever – is just a level of focus.

"It's probably because most of us have got so much to deal with in the past 12 months. Everyone knows we cannot afford ourselves a mental rest until we've finished the job.

"I'm trying generally not to care (about Chelsea's start). I'm focused on ourselves. Teams like Chelsea, Arsenal… the big teams will always come back so it's a matter of time."

Kompany was speaking at BX Brussels, the football club he set up in 2013, as he took part in a game by himself against 100 local children.

Back in his homeland, it was natural to discuss City's latest signing, Kompany's Belgian international team-mate Kevin De Bruyne, after his £54.5m transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

The defender admits he may have had an influence in ensuring the 24-year-old ended up joining him in England.

Kompany added: "I kind of generally put it out there that it's a great club to go to so you never know, someone will maybe take the bait.

"There's a lot of good players in our team. He might have overheard a few things I heard about City in a positive sense."
