Alvaro Negredo will have a medical at Middlesbrough on Tuesday after agreeing to a season-long loan from Valencia.
The La Liga club and Boro have agreed a deal in principle that will see the striker join up with the squad in Marbella should he pass the medical.
The newly-promoted Premier League side will have an option to buy the former Manchester City man next summer if he is a success this season.
Negredo will become Boro's eighth summer signing, following in the footsteps of Viktor Fischer, Victor Valdes, Antonio Barragan, Marten de Roon, Gaston Ramirez, Bernardo Espinosa and Jordan McGhee.
The club are still hoping to complete the signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, who was shown around the Riverside 10 days ago.
Negredo has scored 10 league goals in 55 appearances for Valencia over the past two seasons but had been keen on a return to the Premier League.
City paid £20m to sign the Spanish international from Sevilla in 2013 but he was transferred out of the club to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
