Carlos Cachada has left his position as Middlesbrough's first-team coach as part of Steve Agnew's backroom reshuffle.

Cachada, who joined the club with Aitor Karanka in November 2013, follows goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad and analysts Juanjo Vila and Guillermo Salinas in departing Rockliffe.

The club's under-23s coach Paul Jenkins will now make the step up to assist head coach Agnew - who last week added Joe Jordan to his coaching staff - with first-team duties.

Agnew was placed in control of first-team affairs on Thursday following the sacking of Aitor Karanka and presided over the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at the Riverside on Sunday.

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has hinted that Agnew will be Karanka's long-term successor, saying: "Steve will have full autonomy as first-team coach. I hope he's here this time next year or the year after.

"He has a lot of qualities. He is a very good coach, a deep thinker, loads of experience, knows this club, is a man of integrity and the players trust and like him.

"I've known him a long, long time and he's a smashing lad. I think he can be the glue to unify us completely."
