Full-back ruled out
Middlesbrough defender Andrew Taylor has been ruled out for two months.
The England Under 21 international has missed the last two months of the season with plantar faciitis - sometimes referred to as 'Policeman's heel'.
Boro hoped rest would be enough for the Hartelpool-born stopper - but he has now had to undergo surgery to correct the problem.
"It's obviously a blow for Andrew but the important thing is that we get him right and we feel this is the best way forward," said Boro boss Gareth Southgate.
During Taylor's absence, Emanuel Pogatetz returned from injury and made the left-back slot his own.
Pogatetz too suffered a fresh injury worry and that saw 19-year-old Jonathan Grounds drafted in for his debut at the weekend, and he can expect to see more action over the coming months.
