Aleksandar Mitrovic turned down late interest from Middlesbrough in favour of a move to Fulham on Deadline Day, Sky Sports News understands.

The striker joined the Whites on loan in a dramatic transfer from Newcastle in the final hour of the transfer window, after a proposed move to former club Anderlecht collapsed.

It is understood Mitrovic was also in talks with fellow Championship side Boro but he says he chose the west London club because of boss Slavisa Jokanovic - a fellow Serbian - and the style of football he plays.

"It was a long stressful day but I'm here and I want to be here. I am very happy," he said after joining the club last week.

"There was a lot of clubs but it was Fulham, first of all because of the coach, and then because of the style of football that Fulham play.

"They have a young and good team, and scored a lot of goals this season and last season. For me, they played the best football in the Championship last season and they've continued that this season, so this is one of the reasons why I moved here.

"The manager was a big player and he's a big coach, and he's a big name in Serbia. I talked with him yesterday and a few weeks ago and he told me his plans, and this is the reason I chose Fulham."
