Former Fulham defender Carlos Bocanegra is anticipating a tough test when USA face England on Wednesday.
England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and Bocanegra is aware that Fabio Capello's players will be out to impress at Wembley.
However, Bocanegra insists the friendly also provides USA with an excellent opportunity to show that they can compete with top European sides.
"Fabio has got them going and they are going to be looking to prove themselves and secure themselves in the team," Bocanegra told
Sky Sports News.
"It's unfortunate that they did not qualify for the Euros but we are not going to take them lightly. They are going to be raring to go and it is going to be a difficult game.
"It is a big game for us too so we are going to be fired up."
Focusing
Bocanegra was released by Fulham boss Roy Hodgson at the end of the Premier League season and he is not sure what the future holds.
Asked if he would be back in the Premier League next term, he replied: "I'm not worrying about that now.
"I'll let my agent handle that. I'm just focusing on USA and I'll let that fall into place."
