Wigan have had a third offer for Scotland international Callum Paterson rejected by Hearts, according to Sky sources.
Head coach Robbie Neilson said Wigan were some way off their valuation of the 21-year-old right-back after the Sky Bet Championship side's initial offer, and the Latics are still yet to come to an agreement over a fee.
Paterson is out of contract at the end of the season and would be able to sign a pre-contract deal with a new club in January, although this would be subject to development compensation due to the player's age.
The defender's team-mate Don Cowie has already backed Paterson to succeed in English football.
Paterson has become a key part of Hearts' set-up, making five appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring two goals.
