Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is set to sign an improved extended contract at Bramall Lane - designed to ward off interest from the new owners of Sunderland.

Wilder had been odds-on favourite to move to the Stadium of Light once Stuart Donald's takeover of Sunderland is confirmed in the next few days.

However, Sky Sports News understands Wilder, along with Alan Knill and the rest of his backroom staff, have agreed to remain at Bramall Lane for a third season, despite the increasingly acrimonious dispute over the ownership of the Championship club.

The news comes after club co-owners Kevin McCabe and HRH Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud met in London this week in a bid to resolve the ongoing row.

SSN understands that at the meeting - the first face-to-face talks since the co-owners fell out in the spring - McCabe and Prince Abdullah agreed to fund Wilder's new deal along with a summer transfer budget.
