Charlton Athletic have sacked manager Russell Slade after less than six months in charge.

The Addicks were beaten 3-0 at Swindon on Saturday and currently sit 15th in the League One table.

A club statement read: "The club has reluctantly made this decision after results this season, which have left the team occupying 15th place. The club wants to give itself the best possible opportunity of achieving its number one priority - winning promotion to the Sky Bet Championship at the earliest opportunity.

"The club would like to thank Russell for his tireless work during his time at The Valley, particularly the processes and disciplines he has instilled at the training ground, and wishes him well for the future."

Slade becomes the sixth manager to leave the Addicks since Chris Powell departed in March 2014, although Jose Riga had two spells as boss.

The 56-year-old Slade signed a three-year deal to become manager of Charlton in June, following their relegation from the Championship last season.

Prior to taking over at Charlton, Slade spent two seasons in charge of Cardiff City before a management reshuffle saw Paul Trollope assume first-team coaching duties and Slade move upstairs as head of football.

Slade subsequently left that role after just 28 days in charge.

The departure of Slade is the latest setback for Charlton in an underwhelming season which has seen continued protests against owner Roland Duchatelet's running of the club.

Next Charlton Athletic manager odds

Northern Irishman Chris O'Loughlin is the early odds-on favourite at 8/11 with Sky Bet to replace Russell Slade as manager of Charlton Athletic.

The 38-year-old, who has previously managed in Belgium, heads Sky Bet's odds ahead of former Sheffield United boss Nigel Adkins at 7/1.

Former QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is on offer at 8/1 with the EFL sponsors to get the job. That's the same price as Chris Powell to make a return to the Addicks.

Paolo Di Canio is a 12/1 chance to return to The Valley as boss.
