Karl Robinson issued a fierce criticism of his Charlton players following their defeat at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night, saying some "don't deserve" to wear the club's shirt.

The Addicks went down 4-3 despite a Ricky Holmes hat-trick, a result which leaves the south London club 15th in the League One table and 13 points off the final play-off place.

Discontent is high among the supporters at the Valley too, with several protests having taken place against the owner Ronald Duchatelet.

A group of supporters even travelled to Belgium to hold a rally against Duchatelet with fans of Sint-Truiden, a club which he also owns.

Robinson made his own feelings known about the playing situation at Charlton, saying the Shrewsbury loss "confirms what I know" about the squad.

"Too many people have been getting away with things for too long and some of the players don't deserve the Charlton Athletic shirt," explained Robinson.

"I feel gutted for Ricky Holmes in there. We could hear the fans singing about 'a team of Ricky Holmes' - we wouldn't be where we are if we did.

"I wish I could be honest and speak about how big some of the problems are. Let's take away ownership, managerial change, let's focus on the problem - we've not won enough games on the pitch.

"At some stage, the players have to stand up and be counted and it's hard as a manager because you've got to keep the motivation strong, but this only confirms what I knew.

"For too long, too many people have dodged bullets and the manager has always been the one who gets it in the neck."
