It was another bad day at the office for the Hammers, who suffered their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat at the hands of the confident Saints.
The in-form Charlie Austin - who scored his fifth goal in four games in all competitions - broke the deadlock in the 40th minute before Dusan Tadic doubled the tally just after the hour mark.
It was James Ward-Prowse who dealt the final blow two minutes into injury time to round off the scoring, and ensure West Ham lost five of their opening six Premier League ties for the first time in their history.
