Enner Valencia was chased off the pitch by Ecuadorean police in a bizarre incident during a World Cup Qualifier with Chile.

Valencia escaped the clutches of the police, who were allegedly seeking to question the Everton forward amid reports of a dispute over child maintenance to his ex-wife after playing in the national side's 3-0 win on Thursday.

The player received on-field treatment for altitude sickness with 10 minutes remaining, before he was rushed to an ambulance that took him to a local hospital.

Valencia arrived at West Ham two years ago for a fee of around £12m from Mexican side Pachuca but joined Everton on a season-long loan this summer.

The 26-year-old, who has three years remaining on his current deal with the Hammers, has yet to score in 10 appearances for Everton, who refused to comment on the matter when contacted by Sky Sports News HQ.
