West Ham and Argentina midfielder Manuel Lanzini has been ruled out of the World Cup after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in training.

The 25-year-old, who has made four appearances for Argentina, suffered the injury in training on Friday morning and will miss the entirety of the upcoming tournament in Russia.

River Plate midfielder Enzo Perez has been called up by Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli as a replacement.

Argentina were originally due to face Israel in their final warm-up match in Jerusalem on Saturday.

However, the match was cancelled on Thursday following protests in the wake of the recent violence on the Gaza Strip border.
