West Ham aiming for Europe, according to Dimitri Payet

West Ham’s long-term aim is to bring European football to the Olympic Stadium, says Dimitri Payet.
Payet scored twice as Slaven Bilic's side beat Newcastle 2-0 on Monday Night Football to move up to fifth in the table after five league games.
The Hammers, who face Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday night football, leave Upton Park to move to Olympic Stadium next season and Payet revealed the move was one of the things that attracted him to the cub.
"When Slaven spoke to me about the project he had here it was a really interesting one and it was a really easy decision for me to sign here on a long deal," Payet told Sky Sports.
"When the new coach came in he had a new style of attacking football that he wanted to implement and that was exciting for an attack-minded player like myself.
"Then of course there is the new stadium coming along which is always an important stage for a club. Everyone here is very keen to improve on what we did last season when we finished 12th.
"We think we can do that and in the long term we are aiming to secure European football. "
West Ham have produced two of the shock results of the season so far by beating Arsenal and Liverpool away from home.
Next they face a trip to league leaders Manchester City, who are on a run of 11 straight Premier League victories, winning their first five matches in the process.
Despite Manuel Pellegrini's side form, Payet insists his side have the quality to trouble City but and must repeat the defensive heroics they showed at the Emirates Stadium and Anfield.
He added: "Many people wrote us off in those big away games but if you look at the quality of the squad here then I wouldn't say I'm surprised at all.
"I was surprised by the defeats we had at home to Bournemouth and Leicester but if you look at the last two games against Liverpool and Newcastle we scored five goals and didn't concede any. That's not a coincidence it's down to the quality of players we have here."
"If you look at all of our three wins this season we defended very well in each game and didn't concede," the Frenchman said.
"We created lots of chances and scored plenty of goals too and I think with the attacking players we have here we are able to score at any time.
"Of course it's very important to defend well and to keep clean sheets. We know about the attacking threats Manchester City have but we are ready for the game."
