Quique Sanchez Flores says his Watford side lost intensity, focus and attention in their defeat at Norwich

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores refused to talk about his future at Vicarage Road after the club's 4-2 defeat at Norwich City on Wednesday night.

The Hornets released a statement less than an hour before kick-off at Carrow Road claiming there was no change in the Spaniard's position after Italian Walter Mazzarri had been linked with the role.

However, Flores - who signed a two-year deal last summer - was adamant that those in charge of the club were happy with how the season, in which Watford have reached the FA Cup semi-finals and are 13th in the Premier League, has fared.

"I think we resolved this type of situation very quick," he said. "At this moment, I am not talking about that because we need to play on Sunday, but everybody is happy.

"There are reasons to be happy during the season, to be really pleased with the players, to be very happy with the fans, we enjoyed the season.

"We saw in the last three or four weeks how all the teams at the bottom fight a lot and are nervous and under pressure all the time. And we did not feel this situation during the season."

As for the match itself, Flores claimed his players lacked the same intensity of their Norwich counterparts, who needed to win the game to stand any hope of staying in the Premier League.

"We had opportunities in the first minute to go ahead and I think it was very clear what the intention of the team was, to try and score and win," he said.

"But then we gave a lot of facilities in defence, the distance in the lines was not what we want and Norwich's intensity was much better than ours and finally they play better.

"The intensity was different to how we played against Liverpool to how we played, we lost intensity after 10 minutes. We lost intensity, focus, concentration and the little details are very important.

"And then finally we opened the option for Norwich, who were playing better than us.

"We tried, but sometimes it is difficult as Norwich's players today were fighting. But our objective is done and it is difficult to motivate the players the same way. They are human beings and they are not the first team in the league who after reaching their objective, put their hands down.

"I love this season and if we did not work as hard as we did during the season, then we would be in the situation of Norwich today. The level between Norwich and us is not too much, they played better than us today, but we worked hard during the season."
