Sunderland manager David Moyes feels his team deserved to take at least a point from their 1-0 loss to Watford.
Despite being a relatively even game, Miguel Britos' first strike for the Hornets in the 58th minute was enough for the hosts to claim victory.
The result leaves Sunderland at the bottom of the table and seven points off safety with a game in hand.
Despite the defeat, Moyes feels his team showed enough commitment to merit at least a point from the tightly-contested match.
"The players showed a lot of heart, big commitment right to the end," he told Sky Sports.
"We tried to find a way of scoring but it's been a problem for us recently. I don't think we deserved to lose the game. We deserved to get something out of it."
Moyes pointed to Sunderland's problems at defending set-pieces before the match and, unfortunately for the Black Cats, Watford's winner came from an inability to deal with a corner. However, Moyes was still pleased with his side's overall effort.
He added: "We did well as we had to defend a few [set-pieces], especially in the first half. We just don't quite see the job through in the second half on one of them.
"They didn't really have any other real opportunities. Jordan [Pickford] made a great save in the first half, after that it was pretty even."
