Watford are set to hire Andy Scott as their new technical director, Sky Sports News understands.

Scott is leaving Brentford, where he has been working as their head of recruitment since July 2016.

A former striker with Sheffield United, Oxford and Leyton Orient as well as the Bees, Scott started his management career with Brentford in 2007 and led them to the League Two title in his first full season.

He was sacked two years later with Brentford battling relegation back to League Two. Less successful spells in charge of Rotherham United and Aldershot Town followed before he returned to west London, turning his hand to recruitment.
