Carlos Carvalhal says he is delighted with the way Sheffield Wednesday are playing after seeing his side win 2-1 at Rotherham.

The Owls sealed a fifth win in eight unbeaten games by beating the Millers at the New York Stadium on Friday night, lifting themselves to within a point of the Sky Bet Championship's top six.

Carvalhal, a relatively unknown name in English football who took over Wednesday in the summer, says the players are buying into his ideas and there still much room for improvement in his in-form side.

"I am very happy with my players," the Portuguese told Sky Sports. "It was a tough game but we reacted very well in the second half and dominated after we scored two goals.

"We are delighted to hear players like Ross Wallace say he is improving as a player. Sometimes, as a coach, that is more satisfying than the Champions League.

"For me, there are three things that are important in football.  First, is when you choose the players; you must choose to play for how you want to play. Second, you must have an idea how to play. Third, is that the players believe in your idea.

"Sometimes you have great players but sometimes they don't believe in what you want. But my players do. We have internationals and they help give information to the others about what we are doing.

"We are still in a process. We want more, we can do more. There are some things that, with time, we will do better at it the future."

Barry Bannan and Fernando Forestieri were delighted with their derby day victory

Lucas Joao fired Wednesday ahead 30 seconds after the restart before Fernando Forestieri added the second four minutes later, while Barry Bannan bossed the midfield for the visitors.

And Carvalhal said: "Barry is one of those players who thinks about the football. He is someone who can score and then 10 seconds save a goal at the other end.

"Fernando is maybe playing at 60% or 70% because he came to us late and has been injured. But he will get better game by game. I am delighted with my players."
