Chesterfield have signed Rotherham defender Richard Wood on a three-month loan deal.
Blues boss Dean Saunders has been keen to bolster his defensive options for some time and he has brought in a player who he worked with last season during his spell as manager of Crawley.
Wood has just completed a loan stint at Chesterfield's Sky Bet League One rivals Fleetwood and he could make his Spireites debut against the Cod Army at Highbury on Saturday.
"Richard is a good pro with a great attitude and he will provide more competition for places," said Saunders.
"There has been an imbalance in the squad since I got here because we have been desperately short of defenders. Richard can play on the left or right side of central defence and he will make the squad stronger."
Wood's deal will run until January 23 although there is a 24-hour recall clause in the agreement after 28 days.
The 30-year-old, who began his career at Sheffield Wednesday and has also played for Coventry and Charlton, will be eligible to play in the FA Cup for Saunders' side.
