Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini's horrendous mistake allowed Michael Hefele to equalise for Huddersfield

Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini had an evening to forget after his unfortunate error handed Huddersfield an unlikely point in Tuesday's Sky Bet Championship encounter.

Summer signing Ross McCormack opened his account for the club in the first half, heading Jack Grealish's cross home from close range on 25 minutes.

The hosts went on to control the majority of the game at Villa Park, creating a hosts of chances as their pushed for a game-clinching second.

But their inability to double their advantage came back to haunt them as, with just four minutes of normal time to play, Gollini handed the Terriers a route back into the game.

The 21-year-old, signed from Hellas Verona this summer, was hesitant in clearing his lines when the ball was played back to him in the closing stages.

And that presented Huddersfield's Michael Hefele with the chance to charge down his attempted clearance, which he did, and the 'keeper's rushed kick cannoned off the defender before crashing agonisingly into the unguarded net.
