Norwich forward Kyle Lafferty is set to stay with the club after Cardiff, Reading and Palermo all failed with late moves.
The Royals were trying to thrash out a Deadline Day deal for the Northern Ireland international while Cardiff also tried.
Palermo were also keen to bring the forward back to the club, after selling him to Norwich in 2014, but Norwich's struggles to sign a new striker means Lafferty is likely to stay at Carrow Road as they have no replacement.
Lafferty had not been part of Norwich boss Alex Neil's long-term plans despite scoring in last week's 6-1 EFL Cup win over Coventry and coming on as a second-half substitute in Saturday's 3-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Birmingham.
But with the Canaries signing only Nelson Oliveira from Benfica to boost their forward line, Lafferty is now needed at Carrow Road.
He was loaned out to Birmingham last season and also turned down a move to Swiss side Sion in January with the Canaries having looked to offload him for over a year.
The 28-year-old has scored three goals in 26 appearances for the Canaries after signing from Palermo two years ago.
His lack of club action failed to harm his international form as Lafferty netted seven times to fire Northern Ireland to Euro 2016 but he failed to net at the tournament as Michael O'Neill's side went out in the second round.
Norwich have been chasing new forwards all summer with Neil now plotting a promotion challenge from the Sky Bet Championship with Cameron Jerome, Lafferty and Oliveira.
He lost out on Ross McCormack to Aston Villa while they were linked with a loan move for Watford's Jerome Sinclair and Middlesbrough's Jordan Rhodes.
Norwich midfielders Tony Andreu and James Maddison have signed loan deals with Scottish sides Dundee United and Aberdeen respectively.
Ex-Hamilton player Andreu has moved to United until the end of the season while Maddison, formerly of Coventry, has linked up with Aberdeen until January.
Both players featured in City's 6-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Peterborough on Tuesday night, with Andreu netting a hat-trick.
