Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia saw red for a kick at Fulham’s Ryan Fredericks at Craven Cottage, but did he deserve to be sent off?

Did Aston Villa's Jonathan Kodjia deserve a red card against Fulham? And should Ryan Fredericks have been sent off too?

With Fulham already 1-0 up through 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon, Fredericks and Kodjia collided during Fulham's 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Kodjia lashed out at Fredericks after the tussle and was given a red card following a prolonged consultation between the referee and his assistant.

However, Fredericks appeared to kick at Kodjia beforehand, which may have been what led to the Frenchman's reaction and ultimately the first red card of his career in England.

Aston Villa were down to 10 men in the 21st minute, which did not do the Birmingham-based club any favours as they eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat.

Jack Grealish equalised for the visitors shortly after the break, but Fulham took advantage of having an extra man through goals from Sone Aluko and substitute Neeskens Kebalo.

Leeds' 1-0 defeat to Wolves means the Cottagers enter sixth spot in the Championship, a place above the Garry Monk's team on goal difference on 73 points. Aston Villa sit in 12th.
