Preston's Alan Browne had to be called back from the tunnel by the referee to be dismissed during their defeat at Wolves on Saturday.

There was a strange moment at Molineux on Saturday as Preston midfielder Alan Browne appeared to be called back onto the pitch to be sent off during their 3-2 defeat against Wolves.

Browne collected a second yellow card in stoppage time, but the referee ordered him back to the pitch to be formally dismissed.

Preston boss Alex Neil was left bitterly disappointed by the result and the way referee Stephen Martin handled the game.

"To be honest it summed up the referee," he said. "He said he hadn't actually sent Alan off. What he wanted to do was call him back to show he was in control of the game, which embarrassed him as much as anything else."

Ivan Cavaleiro and a Leo Bonatini double put Wolves in command at Molineux, but Preston pulled one back through Jordan Hugill before Conor Coady put through his own net.

Neil's side pushed for an equaliser, but their threat was ended by Browne's sending off.
