Sky Bet EFL essential stats: Sorry Sunderland at Stadium of Light

Sunderland's Duncan Watmore and Bristol's Joe Bryan battle for the ball during the Sky Bet Championship match at the Stadium of Light

Each week, we will be taking a look back at some essential stats from the weekend's action in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two...

Sorry Sunderland

Sunderland's defeat against Bristol City was their 17th successive league game at the Stadium of Light without a win (six draws, 11 defeats). They will equal the club-record for consecutive home league games without a win (18, set between Aug 2005-May 2006) if they fail to beat Bolton on Tuesday night.

The Black Cats have also picked up fewer points than any ever-present side in the top four divisions in 2017.

Hat-trick hero

Kieran Dowell became Nottingham Forest's youngest post-war hat-trick scorer at Hull (20 years and 18 days). Dowell is the youngest hat-trick scorer in the Championship since Demarai Gray's treble for Birmingham against Reading in December 2014 (18 years, 168 days), as well as the youngest Championship hat-trick scorer in an away game since Jonjo Shelvey did so for Blackpool at Leeds in November 2011 (19 years, 248 days).

Sheffield United have won more games (40) and more points (130) than any other side in England's top four divisions since Chris Wilder took charge in the summer of 2016.

Buoyant Bolton

Bolton avoided going five away games without a point or goal in their 1-1 draw at Fulham on Saturday - it would have been their worst run since a club-record six successive 3rd tier away games without a point or goal between Dec 1988-Mar 1989.

League One

Charlton have made the fourth-best start to a league season in their history - after 1985-86, 1999-00 & 2011-12. In all three seasons they have made a better start, they have gone on to be promoted that season.

League Two

Barnet have failed to win in their last ten League Two games (four draws, six defeats) - their longest run without a win since Aug-Oct 2012, when they went 12 league games without a win. They were relegated from the Football League that season.
