Gary Rowett has told Sky Sports News HQ that two clubs have already been in contact about his managerial services but he is in no rush to take up any job.
The 42-year-old was sacked by Birmingham this week and replaced by Gianfranco Zola despite an ongoing push for the Championship play-off places.
Rowett says he wants to manage at the top level but will not limit himself to a specific division and will take the right offer as soon as it comes along.
"I had a couple of phone calls the very next morning," Rowett said. "If something comes along that's really attractive then I'd start tomorrow. I certainly wouldn't feel like I need a break.
"But at the same time it's nice to step back from the parapet of football management and review and analyse some things. I'm not desperate.
"It doesn't matter to me what league. Of course I want to manage at the highest level but I loved every minute of League Two with Burton, so I wouldn't limit myself. If [the right offer] comes along, great, if it doesn't I'll be patient."
Rowett was sacked less than 24 hours after his side recorded a third win in five league games at Ipswich but insists the Birmingham board handled things in the right way.
"I went to a meeting where they told me the news. They did it face-to-face. I have no problems with it. It's anyone's prerogative to do what they want with their football club," Rowett added. "It gave me the chance to speak to my players and staff face-to-face and let them know before anyone did. That's how it happened and it was a little bit of a shock.
"The way they did it was pretty dignified. But, as I said, when one door shuts another door opens. These things happen in football and you've got to try and bounce back and view it as positively as you can."
