Sunderland have announced the signing of Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan.

The move reunites the 21-year-old with manager David Moyes who gave him his debut for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2013.

Januzaj earned rave reviews for his performances over the next few months and was rewarded with a five-year contract which runs out in the summer of 2018.

However, he failed to hold down a regular first-team spot and was loaned to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for the first half of last season.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Manchester City, Moyes, who raided United for fellow 21-year-olds Paddy McNair and David Love just 24 hours earlier, said: "Adnan will give us a different variation.

"I thought he was one of the finest young talents I have ever seen, and he was up there with Wayne Rooney at the age of 18.

Jose Mourinho says Adnan Januzaj fits in his plans but loaning him to a Premier League club gives him the opportunity to develop before returning to Old Trafford

"We care about him and we think he is a talented player. But to be in a squad with Memphis, Martial, Mkhitaryan, Young, Mata would mean not many matches.

"So we cannot be selfish and have to think about the players; in this case Adnan. We see him every week in this country. We can compare performances. He is in the right place with a manager that likes him a lot. We want it to go well because we want him back."

Sunderland have also signed Senegalese centre-back Papy Djilobodji from Chelsea and all four new recruits are in line to make their debuts at the Etihad this weekend.
