Adnan Januzaj has been ruled out for a minimum of six weeks after suffering an ankle injury during Sunderland's 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The on-loan Manchester United winger has impressed following his switch to Wearside, putting in a number of positive performances in the Premier League while scoring a stunning winner in the EFL Cup against Shrewsbury.

In order to assess the extent of the injury sustained on Saturday, the 21-year-old underwent a scan on Tuesday, with the results confirming he suffered ankle ligament damage. Januzaj will now be out until November.

He joins Vito Mannone, Sebastian Larsson and Fabio Borini in the Stadium of Light treatment room; Mannone injured an elbow in training and forward Borini has a groin injury, while knee trouble has sidelined midfielder Larsson.

Sunderland, who escaped relegation last season under Sam Allardyce, are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with one point from a possible 18; they host West Brom on Saturday.
