Sunderland confirm US investment bank helping with potential sale

Sunderland owner Ellis Short is using New York-based firm Inner Circle Sports to help sell the club.

The American tycoon is actively trying to sell up after eight years in charge of the Wearsiders. 

Inner Circle Sports have previously helped in takeovers at Liverpool and Crystal Palace, and the company have produced a document in a bid to attract potential investors.

However, Sunderland have issued a statement insisting this is standard procedure. 

It says: "The Premier League is the most watched sporting league in the world.

"Its popularity and global reach means that there will always be interest its member clubs and the information is simply a standardised document which is available in relation to enquiries received about the club."

Sky Sports understand no takeover of the club is close, but there has been varied levels of interest from a number of investors.
