Robbin Ruiter will fly into the North East on Wednesday to undergo a medical with Sunderland, according to Sky sources.

The Dutch goalkeeper, who has spent time on trial at the Stadium of Light this summer, will sign a two-year-deal.

The 30-year-old is a free-agent after leaving Utrecht at the end of last season.

Jordan Pickford starred in goal for Sunderland last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, but the England U21 man was subsequently sold to Everton for £30m.
