Sunderland should consider Paul Cook as their new manager, says Don Goodman

Don Goodman believes Wigan boss Paul Cook could be the right man to help turn things around at Sunderland after the sacking of Simon Grayson.
Grayson was relieved of his duties as Sunderland boss immediately following Tuesday night's 3-3 home draw with bottom of the Championship Bolton due to a poor run of results.
Since his arrival at the Stadium of Light four months ago, Grayson only managed one win in his opening 15 league games, leaving Sunderland in the relegation zone with 10 points from a possible 45.
Sunderland have struggled to settle on a manager in recent history, having parted ways with seven managers in the last four years and former Black Cats player Goodman is "baffled" as to where they can go from this position.
However, he suggested the club should go in a new direction with their next appointment and hire a young manager succeeding at a "level below" and put forward Cook as someone they should consider for the vacancy.
"It's baffling about where they go next for me and that's what I'm curious about. They've tried the foreign flamboyant manager in Paolo Di Canio, the solid lads we've just spoken about (Moyes and Grayson) and Gus Poyet's had a go," he told Premier League Daily.
"Where do they go next? The only thing they haven't tried really is a young manager doing really, really well at a level below like a Paul Cook at Wigan or somebody of that ilk, sorry Wigan fans.
"But he's just doing such a good job wherever he goes. It's the only thing they haven't tried and I'm really not sure which road they are going to go down, but it's a mess."
There is no let up for the Wearside club as they head to local rivals Middlesbrough on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.
