Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has a goalkeeping crisis ahead of Sunday's clash with Ipswich, as all of his professional keepers could be unavailable.Mart Poom is out for the season with a knee injury, while Thomas Myhre is struggling to make Sunday's clash after picking up a side strain at Reading.
Michael Ingham has suffered a neck injury while on the team bus, while Ben Alnwick is on compassionate leave after a bereavement.
McCarthy says that he has taken training without any goalkeepers, and may have to ask the Football League for special dispensation to sign a keeper.
"I'm still hopeful Thomas Myhre will be available but it is an issue," McCarthy told the club's website.
"It's a wait and see thing.
"We've got no keepers in training today and we'll wait as long as possible. Trever Carson, our youth team keeper, will play in the reserves tonight.
"If you're absolutely desperate, with no keepers, you can ask to bring someone in. If it was today, I'd be asking the question."
The Football League said that The Black Cats could have a case for signing an emergency goalkeeper.
"The club would have to apply to us for permission and give medical evidence of the need for an additional player," said a League spokesman.
"They would have to show that all of their professional goalkeepers were injured and we would consider their application."
