Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal insists the club will not be selling star striker Fernando Forestieri to Derby.

Press Association Sport understands the Rams have made a bid for Forestieri, who was Wednesday's top scorer last season with 15 Championship goals and picked up where he left off on Sunday with the winner against Aston Villa.

But it seems the Owls will reject the offer, reported to be £7million, for the 26-year-old Argentine forward.

Speaking after his side's EFL Cup first-round defeat at Cambridge on Tuesday night, Carvalhal was asked about Derby's interest in Forestieri.

He told local newspaper The Star: "I don't know (if Derby have made a bid) but Sheffield Wednesday is not selling any player. This is clear.

"The chairman was very clear that he won't sell any players. We are buying, not selling players."

Meanwhile, Derby boss Nigel Pearson refused to be drawn on reports linking him with a move for Forestieri.

However, Pearson did admit he thought the striker was "a very good player" after watching his team edge past Grimsby in their EFL Cup tie.
