Chris Brunt is set to have a scan on Sunday after being taken off on a stretcher during West Brom's win over Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

The midfielder, who was hit by a coin thrown by one of his team's own supporters during the Baggies' FA Cup defeat at Reading last weekend, caught his studs in the turf and twisted his knee in stoppage time at the end of the first half at The Hawthorns.

He left the field on a stretcher and was replaced by James Chester.

Brunt is a key player for West Brom and any lengthy absence would also hit Northern Ireland hard as he was a key figure in their qualification for this summer's European Championship.

Albion manager Tony Pulis said: "We're really concerned about him."

Baggies fans had organised a bucket collection to raise funds for Brunt's charity of choice following the incident at Reading and they also unveiled a banner in support of their player which read 'Brunty: One of us'.

Pulis added: "The response, the letters and everything we've had coming through the door from our supporters has been absolutely fantastic.

"It's a very famous club, it's got tremendous tradition, and I think it really shook a lot of supporters. There was a definite coming together today of let's show everybody that we are what we are - a good club with good support.

"Like everybody else they'll have a moan and a groan if things are not going well but we're not a club that condone people throwing stuff, especially at their own, and I thought they were wonderful today."
