West Brom centre-backs Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson have been handed one-year contract extensions.

The long-serving duo were both set to be out of the contract at the end of the current campaign but will be back at The Hawthorns for the 2016/17 season.

Sweden international Olsson has been with West Brom since 2008 and the 33-year-old has played 247 times for Albion, bagging 14 goals.

McAuley arrived at the club in 2011 and has chalked up 171 appearances and 10 goals, regularly teaming up with Olsson at the heart of the defence.

The 36-year-old is delighted to have resolved his future ahead of Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 campaign.

"It's great for both Jonas and I," he told the Baggies official website. "When you're settled somewhere and you enjoy it, and you enjoy the football and the people you work with, it's an easy decision to make.

"The time Jonas has been here has been fantastic and I've really enjoyed the time I've had with him and with the club.

"Speaking to the club about the plans they have moving forward, hopefully we can step on.

"Since I've been here it's always been about progression. We staggered a little bit for a couple of years, but I think this season we've progressed again and, hopefully, with a few additions we can establish ourselves as a top-10 club."

Olsson said: "It's good to be part of the squad for another year, it makes it nine for me and six for Gareth.

"It's nice to be part of this club and I'm happy to play with Gareth for another year.

"When you make decisions about your future, there's certain things you weigh up and, for me, it really has been about being part of this group for another year.

"Both of us have been here a long time but I think we can agree that the dressing room we have now really is something special.

"I'm really happy and proud to be part of this team and this league for another season."

Albion boss Tony Pulis said: "Gareth and Jonas have been smashing again this year. They're the foundation this club has been built on the last six or seven years.

"Their attitude in training and with the younger players has been absolutely first class. They're really good pros, great examples to the younger players that will come into this club eventually. They're good examples for the academy lads as well.

"The fact they've been at the football club for such a long period as well, they've got West Brom through them. They know how the club works, they know the way it's run and they're good lads. That's important.

"With Jonas and Gareth now signing we've got a good backbone to go into next season, it's just reward for them."
