West Brom's bid for Angers defender Romain Thomas has been rejected by the Ligue 1 club, according to Sky sources.

The 28-year-old defender helped Angers gain promotion to the top flight of French football in 2015 and has made more than 90 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

And with the loss of Sebastien Pocognoli on a season-long loan deal to Brighton, Tony Pulis has looked to bolster his defensive options.

So far this summer, Pulis has strengthened his attacking options by signing Nacer Chadli from Spurs on a club-record transfer fee of £13m, and he has also recruited winger Matt Phillips from Queens Park Rangers.

Meanwhile, the future of forward Saido Berahino remains uncertain, although Stoke - reportedly linked with a move for the striker - completed the loan signing of Wilfried Bony from Manchester City on Deadline Day.
