Alan Pardew said his West Brom players can be "proud" of their performance following the goalless draw at Liverpool.
West Brom showed intent at Anfield on Wednesday night, and had several chances to win the game, while Liverpool's Dominic Solanke had a late goal controversially ruled out for handball.
Pardew, who has not overseen a victory since taking over from Tony Pulis, noted how Liverpool played a strong side against Albion, and was delighted with the result.
He told Sky Sports: "It's something that we'd worked hard on in the training ground, making sure our distances were good and our attitude and application on the break was good.
"On transition today we could still improve, but it was better than it was at Swansea [at the weekend], we had fewer opportunities but we were better with them. We had some outstanding displays on the pitch tonight. The back four were terrific, the midfield worked very hard, we were very strong tonight.
"[Liverpool] had all the big hitters out there, it wasn't like we came up against a Liverpool side who had left a few out, it was a real force.
"We kept them quiet and I think the players can be very proud of their performance."
Regarding the disallowed goal, which was originally given by referee Paul Tierney before being overruled by his assistant, Pardew believed it was a fair decision and said the officials deserved credit for such a brave call.
"Because we're at the angle we were at, I couldn't see, but I see the linesman didn't move, which definitely cheered me up. Looking at it on the replay it's a definite handball. If he didn't handball it, it wouldn't have gone in the back of the net," he said.
"So it's a brave and great decision from the linesman. We don't always give them credit, and I like to think he got that spot on."
