Federico Fazio’s move to West Brom has broken down after the deal to sign the Tottenham centre-back stalled due to personal terms.

Fazio was at Albion's training ground on Friday morning after a £5m fee was agreed with Spurs for the Argentina international.

The 28-year-old, who moved to White Hart Lane last year for £8m, passed a medical but Albion were unable to reach an agreement with the former Sevilla player.

It's understood the transfer could be revived as a loan deal but manager Tony Pulis is now considering other options first.

Fazio, who spent seven years with Sevilla, made 32 appearances for Spurs last term but faces competition from new arrivals Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer.

Alderweireld has partnered Jan Vertonghen in both of Tottenham's games so far, with Fazio not even making the bench on either occasion.

Albion have been seeking to strengthen defensively after losing their Premier League opener 3-0 at home to Manchester City then drawing 0-0 with Watford last weekend.

They have so far signed defender James Chester from Hull but their current first-choice centre-back Joleon Lescott is reportedly the subject of interest to Aston Villa.
