Ronald Koeman says he’s happy with how Southampton are progressing this season

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman believes it will take time for Jurgen Klopp to get his ideas across at Liverpool and he is hoping to exploit that when the two sides meet at Anfield on Super Sunday.

Koeman admits he has been surprised by the impact Klopp has made after just two games in charge, but says the German will find out very quickly that any team can lose to any other.

"He's had a lot of attention in the press but it isn't easy as a new manager - you need time," Koeman said

"I was surprised by Liverpool's first 30 minutes against Tottenham. It was a different level in the aspect of good, high pressing. Against Rubin Kazan was different, but it takes time to put over everything you want as a new manager.

"New managers bring new details to the team. Maybe there will be a change in the system and some players will have the chance to show their qualities. But it isn't easy to see a big difference in one or two weeks.

"He should expect that every weekend is very intensive. You don't have a lot of difference between the clubs and you have to be good to win the game. You can lose against everybody or win against everybody."

Southampton have lost just twice in the Premier League so far this season and showed they are still one of the strongest teams in the division by beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Koeman added: "We are confident. The season is going well. We know we had a difficult start, but we've had some good wins, some defeats where we have made some mistakes, but I think now if you watch how the team has done over the last few weeks, we are at a good level.

"We showed that at Chelsea away, and it was important to show we are a team that is difficult to beat. If we show our level we can play against anyone."

Southampton striker Shane Long will not be fit to face Liverpool but could return for the south-coast derby against Bournemouth next weekend after more than a month on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage.

Koeman added: "Shane Long is still out. He is progressing well. The weekend is too soon to be available but I hope he will be fit again for the next weekend."
