With Southampton looking for a new manager after Ronald Koeman was confirmed as the new Everton manager on Tuesday, we take a look at the leading contenders to fill the vacancy according, to Sky Bet.

Koeman had continued the good work of Mauricio Pochettino at St Mary's, leading the club to successive best Premier League seasons, but signed a three-year deal on Tuesday to take over at Goodison Park

So who next at St Mary's?

Here we examine the leading contenders, according to Sky Bet...

Frank de Boer - 2/1 with Sky Bet

Strongly linked with the Everton job before the Toffees plumped for his fellow Dutchman, De Boer appears to be a contender for the job vacated by Koeman.

The 46-year-old is out of work after leaving Ajax at the end of last season, having led the club to four straight Eredivisie titles before missing out on a fifth on the final day of the campaign.

De Boer brings pedigree and prestige having won over 100 caps for Holland in a stellar playing career that took in a successful decade at Ajax and five seasons at Barcelona.

His managerial experience is limited to the Dutch league, but he is a big name, available, and has made it known a job in England appeals to him.

Eddie Howe - 3/1 with Sky Bet

The most highly-rated young English manager in the game, Howe has achieved great things at Bournemouth.

After injuries cut short his playing career, Howe moved into coaching and was just 31 years old when named permanent manager of the Cherries in January 2009, swiftly masterminding promotion to League One.

After 18 unhappy months with Burnley, Howe returned to Bournemouth in 2012 and has led the side from Sky Bet League One to Premier League survival.

Could a move along the south coast to ambitious and flourishing Southampton appeal at this stage of his career?

Manuel Pellegrini - 6/1 with Sky Bet

Another man out of work and linked with the Everton vacancy is Pellegrini. The Chilean's reign at Manchester City divided opinion but he brought exciting football to the Etihad, with his side outscoring the rest of the Premier League in each of his three campaigns in charge.

However, the 62-year-old is reportedly the top target for AC Milan, who are set for fresh investment as a Chinese consortium look to complete their takeover.

Andre Villas-Boas - 8/1 with Sky Bet

Could the Portuguese coach be tempted by a third attempt to crack the Premier League?

While his spells at Chelsea and Tottenham did not go to plan, there is no doubt he is a talented coach and a real student of the modern game.

He won a treble in his first season as Porto boss, leading the team to an undefeated league season to go with Portuguese Cup and Europa League glory.

While his spell at Chelsea was undoubtedly a disaster, it's worth noting that he led Spurs to a 72-point haul in 2012/13 - two points more than Mauricio Pochettino's side managed last season.

Villas-Boas has repaired his reputation with success in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg, winning the Premier League, cup and Super Cup, and may feel he has unfinished business in England. The reduced media glare at Southampton compared to Chelsea and Spurs could help.

David Moyes - 16/1 with Sky Bet

Another manager who may feel he has something to prove in England, Moyes is looking to rebuild his reputation after a nightmare 10 months in charge of Manchester United and a short-lived spell in Spain with Real Sociedad.

Before that, though, he spent more than a decade at Everton where one of England's traditional big clubs consistently punched above their weight against the Premier League's big-spending elite.

Moyes led the team to five top-six finishes in the Premier League after a lengthy spell languishing in the bottom half of the top flight.

Southampton are another club punching above their weight after finishing eighth, seventh and sixth in the last three seasons. Moyes' organisational skills married with the talent at St Mary's could be a good fit.
