Southampton boss Claude Puel acknowledged his team didn’t play well against Hull as they drew 0-0 in the Premier League.

Claude Puel called for Southampton improvement after his side's limp display in a 0-0 draw with Hull at Mary's.

The hosts didn't muster a single shot on target in the first half against the Premier League strugglers, and only two in the second, one of which was a late penalty, saved by Hull stopper Eldin Jakupovic.

That is now three league games without a win for the Saints, meaning they are in danger of a bottom-half finish this season, and Puel called on his players to turn their form around.

"It was not a good performance," Puel told Sky Sports. "There was very little quality, rhythm, intensity. We were too slow to find the good situations.

"When we attacked, we were too slow. We could not find any intensity against aa good team with a good organisation and technical play, but for us, it was not enough. But we have to accept this.

"They played very well. They want to stay in the Premier League. It was a difficult game for us, and difficult game for them, and I think it is a good point for us.

Saints ineptitude seemed to irk fans on Saturday afternoon, with boos audible at the final whistle. Puel understands their concerns, but insisted he and the players are just as frustrated.
