Victor Wanyama told Southampton on Friday he still wants to play for another club, according to Sky sources.

The midfielder did not travel to Denmark for the midweek Europa League defeat because of a "stomach infection" and speculation concerning a move to Tottenham will only heighten with the latest news.

Saints will be desperate to hit back after crashing out of the second tier European competition when they host Norwich in the Super Sunday showdown, live on Sky Sports 1 from 12.30pm.

With manager Ronald Koeman stating on Wednesday that he hoped Wanyama would be available for the weekend, it will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old is selected.

Sky sources have learned Wanyama reiterated to Koeman on Friday his desire to play elsewhere.

The Kenyan had first informed the coach and director Les Reed of his feelings last weekend.

Sky understands the club has been aware of the player's unhappiness at St Mary's for more than a year.

Tottenham remain strongly interested in signing him before the deadline and it is believed that Wanyama would be open to working again with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Koeman declared last week that Wanyama was "not for sale" and Sky sources understand the south coast club informed the player of their intention to offer him a new contract.

It is understood that Tottenham want to sign Wanyama before next Tuesday's transfer deadline. Pochettino brought Wanyama to Southampton two years ago for a club-record fee believed to be around £12m.

Wanyama has since made 57 Premier League appearances for Southampton, scoring three goals.
