Premier League questions: Will De Gea and Martial start? Can Kane break his scoring duck?

Ahead of the fifth round of games in the 2015/16 Premier League season, we take a look at 10 questions that could be answered by the end of the weekend.

Can Chelsea avoid a third league defeat in five games? (Everton v Chelsea - Saturday, 12.45pm)

Jose Mourinho's side lost just three league games in the entirety of last season as they cruised to the Premier League title.

However, after defeats at Manchester City and at home to Crystal Palace, the Blues could match that total after just five games if they slip up again at Goodison Park.

Mourinho has already issued a warning to his players that they must improve or he will be forced to make changes.

Their first chance to respond to their manager comes on Saturday lunchtime against an Everton side still searching for their first home win of 2015/16.

Will Stoke end their miserable run of defeats at Arsenal? (Arsenal v Stoke - Saturday, 3pm)

Mark Hughes' men are still looking for a first win of the season and given their record at Arsenal, they may be forced to wait a little longer. The Potters have lost on all seven of their visits to the Emirates and fared little better at Highbury. Indeed, the last time they avoided defeat at Arsenal was their 1-0 win back in August 1981.

Last season, Alexis Sanchez inspired Arsenal to a comfortable 3-0 victory and the Chilean forward may see Saturday's game as the perfect chance to get his goalscoring account up and running for the season.

Stoke could welcome Jon Walters back into the starting line-up after he failed to secure a move away from the Britannia Stadium on transfer deadline day.

Can Palace breach Manuel Pellegrini side's watertight defence? (Crystal Palace v Manchester City - Saturday, 3pm)

Manchester City top the table having scored 10 goals without reply so far this season. They are still two games short of Chelsea's record of six clean sheets to start the season and are up against a Palace side who have found the net in every game so far in this campaign. They will need to keep their wits about them to deny Alan Pardew's men.

The Eagles beat City 2-1 at Selhurst Park last season and will hope for a similar outcome this time around in a clash that sees second play first.

Three wins in four so far have seen expectations rise further in south London with some already suggesting Palace could push for a European place. Doing what no other side has managed this season and scoring against City would be a good start.

Which newly-promoted side has settled best in the top flight? (Norwich v Bournemouth - Saturday, 3pm)

After four games, both Norwich and Bournemouth have recorded a win, a draw and two defeats and while neither has looked out of their depth, both will now be well aware of the size of the task facing them to retain their Premier League status.

Interestingly, the wins for both sides came on the road - Norwich winning at Sunderland and Bournemouth at West Ham - but the Canaries will see this as a chance to give the home fans something to cheer.

In the Championship last season, the sides shared the spoils at Carrow Road while Norwich grabbed the three points in the reverse fixture. Early days it may be, but it is likely both teams will see this as the type of game they must win to stay in the division.

Can Watford stop Swansea goal machine Bafetimbi Gomis? (Watford v Swansea - Saturday, 3pm)

Gomis has scored in each of Swansea's four games so far this season and if he finds the net against Watford, he will equal the record held by Wayne Rooney and Jose Antonio Reyes who scored in the first five games of a Premier League season.

However, to do so he must get the better of a Watford defence who have yet to concede a home goal in 2015/16. Goalless draws against West Brom and Southampton have shown that the Hornets could be difficult to break down this year but also highlighted their lack of potency in attack - quite the reverse of the free-scoring side that earned promotion in the previous campaign.

Swansea and Gomis though have been in excellent form and after goals against Chelsea, Newcastle, Sunderland and Manchester United, the Frenchman's confidence will be sky high.

Will Saido Berahino return after deadline day outburst? (West Brom v Southampton - Saturday, 3pm)

After West Brom refused to sell Berahino to Tottenham, the striker took to Twitter to express his frustration and vowed he would not play for the Baggies again under chairman Jeremy Peace.

However, he has since returned to training and could complete the U-turn if he features against Southampton at The Hawthorns.

The 22-year-old hit 14 league goals last season, including the winner against Saints at The Hawthorns, but faces competition from new signings Rickie Lambert and Salomon Rondon for a starting place following his well-publicised spat with the club.

Will David de Gea and Anthony Martial start for United? (Manchester United v Liverpool - Saturday, 5.30pm)

It was tale of two transfers for Man Utd in the final days of the transfer window, one that happened and one that didn't. The final result is that Louis van Gaal has two more players to choose from for their clash with arch-rivals Liverpool. Whether either will start though remains to be seen.

Van Gaal judged that De Gea was not in the right frame of mind to play in the club's opening fixtures with the prospect of a move to Real Madrid looming large. However, with the goalkeeper now staying with the club until January at the earliest, he could replace Sergio Romero between the sticks.

As for Martial, United splashed out a "ridiculous" £36m on the young forward and with the Red Devils struggling for goals, there might be the temptation to throw him in at the deep end on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could have Daniel Sturridge available after he returned to full training on Thursday. The striker has been out of action since April having undergone hip surgery.

Can Harry Kane continue his England form and break his Premier League duck? (Sunderland v Tottenham - Sunday, 1.30pm)

After bursting onto the scene last season scoring 21 league goals, Harry Kane has struggled at the start of the new season and is without a goal in four games.

However, he scored twice after coming off the bench for England during the international break and now comes up against a Sunderland defence that has leaked 13 goals in five games in all competitions.

The pressure has been on Kane at Spurs this season as the club's only out-and-out striker. The arrivals of Clinton N'Jie and, in particular, Son Heung-Min could help ease the burden on the Tottenham No 10.

Will tempers flare again as east meets west in this midlands derby? (Leicester v Aston Villa - Sunday, 4pm)

In last season's two Premier League meetings between Leicester and Aston Villa, there were three red cards. Paul Konchesky saw red as the Foxes lost 2-1 at Villa Park but he was the match winner at the King Power Stadium as both sides ended with 10 men.

Matty James and Ciaran Clark were the two players sent off in the last league meeting, a 1-0 win for Leicester.

There have been red cards in at least one of the two fixtures between the clubs in the past three seasons they have been in the same division, with Les Ferdinand and David Ginola also having received their marching orders in this fixture in years gone by.

Under Claudio Ranieri, the Foxes have caught the eye more for their entertaining style of play than for tough tackling but in a derby game, anything can happen.

Will Slaven Bilic heap more misery on Steve McClaren? (West Ham v Newcastle - Monday, 8pm)

The last time Bilic and McClaren went head-to-head was on a rainy night at Wembley eight years ago as Croatia beat England 3-2 on a night McClaren must wish he could forget.

The result cost him his job and although defeat at Upton Park is highly unlikely to yield the same result, McClaren is still looking for his first league win as Newcastle boss and could do with three points sooner rather than later.

There is reason for optimism for Magpies fans though, with West Ham having lost both of their home games this season, succumbing to Leicester and Bournemouth.

Bilic's side have certainly appeared far more comfortable away from home than they have in front of their own fans and Newcastle will hope to take advantage of that.
