Xherdan Shaqiri says his second goal in Stoke's 4-3 win at Everton was deliberate - and not a fluffed attempt at a cross.

Shaqiri scored the opener in the thrilling victory at Goodison Park, and after Romelu Lukaku equalised he grabbed his second in spectacular fashion.

Bojan put him through on goal, and after a quick glance up, he lofted the ball over Tim Howard and into the top corner, but Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was not convinced he meant it, even after watching the incident a few times while Marko Arnautovic believes the former Bayern Munich winger was trying to deliver a cross towards him.

But the Swiss winger told The Sentinel: "For the second goal, Marko Arnautovic was offside when Bojan played the pass but I went deep and I think he was always trying to pass to me anyway. The finish was really good.

"I knew what I wanted to do…does it look like I didn't? Arnautovic said it was a cross? Well, Arnautovic talks too much, man.

"I don't know if that's the best goal I've scored. I scored some nice goals in Switzerland. It was the best goal I scored today! It was an important goal so that was really nice.

"The reaction (in the stadium) was incredible. I really enjoyed that moment. That is football. For me, it was really more important to win the game than to score so that's why I'm happy."
