Colchester have signed defender Lewis Kinsella on a one-year contract.
Kinsella, 21, released by Aston Villa earlier this summer, has been on trial with Colchester, who were relegated to Sky Bet League Two last season.
"The former Aston Villa player has impressed in his two games on trial against Ipswich and Crystal Palace and the U's have moved to sign him up on a permanent basis," Colchester said on their official website.
Kinsella progressed through Arsenal's academy before joining Villa in 2011.
He made Villa's matchday squad on several occasions but failed to make a first-team breakthrough, while he has also had loan spells at Luton and Kidderminster.
