STRINGER TO STAY AT WEDNESDAY

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY goalkeeper Chris Stringer has signed a one-year extension to his current contract with the club.

Stringer made an instant impact on the First Division when he was summoned from the bench after just 13 seconds of the Owls fixture with Wolves earlier in the season.

Since then the youngster has made seven appearances for Wednesday and, with Kevin Pressman still receiving treatment for a thigh injury, he may well be called into action for Saturday's FA Cup visit to Southampton.

Manager Paul Jewell believes that Stringer has earned his new contract, commenting:

"Chris is still one for the future, but he has always done well when he has come into the side. He is enthusiastic, and has never let us down."
